Prime minister of India launches the #CleanIndiaCampaign on the
birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with great enthusiasm and "Is BJP trying to
steal the broom from AAP?” asks a stupid journalist to the
discussion panel on a leading news channel on TV!!!! What do you call these
efforts of media to dilute such a strong idea of a leader who initiates a beautiful
work of cleaning India? Call me anything but
I must confess that I am deeply impressed by the idea of cleaning India. I said
I am impressed by the idea and I am not giving any credit to the prime minister already as he has just initiated it but the real credit goes to the people
who actively participate in this idea if it actually materializes in the
future. So I am clearly writing this article putting aside my ideas and
thoughts on politics.
The idea of #CleanIndia
is an initiative by the government of India for which everyone must participate not to favor the government or to show support to any particular leader but to
lend a hand in building this nation. In a country like India where the government
is “Of the people, By the people, For the
people” it is very much necessary for the people to be a political literate
to realize the meaning of the democracy. Opinions can be for or against any
particular issue but we must make sure that we participate and
contribute in governance. And it is also responsibility of the people to identify
the best ideas in the system and contribute positively ignoring political
masterstroke behind it for better nation building.
Going forward let’s understand the idea of #CleanIndia
more. Recently when prime minister initiated this idea, he asked every citizen
of this country to participate and spread the awareness. He also nominated 9 Indian
celebrities to take the #CleanIndiaCampaign challenge and asked them to lead the
initiative.
He urged every citizen to use the power of social networking
efficiently in spreading the message. He suggested everyone to take pictures of
a dirty place before cleaning, then to clean it and to take a picture of the
cleaned place. He expects us to post those pictures in social networking site
and nominate our friends to do the same. So when I consider this idea as a game
changer, I along with my friends did our bit in cleaning a public place and
nominated few of our friends. Though some of my friends had raised voice against
Narendra Modi before elections, they positively took the challenge to clean a
public place not because to support Modi neither to support me but they found this idea
very interesting and the duty of every citizen of this country. I am very happy
about this positive development. Once the challenge was completed they
nominated their friends to take up the challenge on Facebook. Then came an
interesting discussion and I would like to post a picture of the same here.

Person 2 is my friend who accepted our challenge and
completed. Person 1 is Person 2’s friend who got nominated by Person 2. Though
I agree with person 1 on his idea where he is trying to convey that it is our
duty not to make the places dirty but I completely agree with the person 2 where he is stressing the need of spreading the idea in a
chain to take up the challenge to clean India. Agreeing that we should not litter and make places dirty in future it
is the duty of our generation to clean the existing filthy places to make sure that we transform
spoiled places into a #CleanIndia.
Bapuji says “Be the change you
want to see in the world”. Irrespective of the party or people, we must put
aside our difference of opinion aside to take up the challenge to clean India. Development
begins from the basics and cleanliness is the basic. A filthy India with bullet
trains, concrete buildings, and high investment doesn’t make it a developed India
but the clean India with all those things would make it. In a system of democracy,
we have all the rights to complain!!! It is fine until and unless we take
actions along with the complaints. Some of our politicians tried to downplay
this initiative calling it a political masterstroke by Modi to impress people
but the #CleanIndia mission cannot clean India. Yes I agree we cannot clean
India if we just sit and complain everyday about the system but never
participate in the initiative. Let’s forget the politics but analyze the
potential of the idea which can really bring out the change that we are looking
for over years. We must understand that it’s not one time job but may take
years to clean India. It is required to spend 2 hours in a week for this activity.
I have started to do the same and I will continue to do it in future. I repeat
it again; I am doing it selflessly for my own good and for my own country’s
good irrespective of the source of the initiative. I know everybody was willing
to do it but it required an initiative to materialize everybody’s willingness
to convert into actions. Now that #CleanIndiaCampaign has been launched, there
are many leaders who have accepted the challenge and actively participating in
the campaign. To name some of them, The God of cricket-Sachin Tendulkar,
Priyanka chopra, Salman Khan, kamal Hassan have started working on the initiative. So come on Indians let’s
join and build the nation. Cleanliness makes more sense when seen on the
ground than being written on paper!!!!!
