Inspiring agents and the nose breaking story

It was September 5th    2003; I dressed up in a white shirt which looked neat and clean. Some how I had managed to get a neatly pressed black pant for the occasion. But then I didnot have formal shoes which could match the dress I was wearing. Yogi, my friend had them and was generous enough to lend me (He knew I would snatch it if he won’t lend it :P) so that it would look complete. They were polished and pointed a bit. The sole was hard and heel was high to make it slightly uncomfortable. But then I had no option but to wear it as I did not get any better choices. There was some extra carried attitude on my face especially for the day. I walked into 9th class and students stood up to greet me. I wished them back and asked them to take their seats. I read out the names from the attendance sheet in a strange manner. In fact I was trying to prove something which I was not good at. I thought of walking around the classroom for a check on the students. So as I stepped down the platform, students shouted and some of my friends ran into the classroom. My face was on the desk and my nose was bleeding. Yes, I had slipped from the platform to hit the front wooden desk breaking my nose!!!
Soon after my 5th standard I had this special privilege to study in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, a residential school set up by GOI. It’s a tradition in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools to celebrate teachers' day in a special way where few interested students become Teachers for the day. And teachers will have all the fun watching their students imitating them. So as part of this tradition I had turned up as social science teacher for the day ending up collecting a nose breaking story for my life. Serious social-science class had turned up in to a laughing theory class.I just had to leave the class before I started and today I still laugh at the way I had tried and ended up breaking my nose. When it comes to the best Teachers' day memories, it should be Mr. Suprith, one of my senior who did his best by enacting Mr. Hugar (Kannada teacher) for every teachers' day. If any of my immediate seniors or juniors from my old school is reading this now, he/she would be able to remember how funny, efficient one hour lecture it used to be from Suprith by re inventing the same language and actions just like Mr. Hugar. Even Hugar sir used to appreciate Suprith making it even more special. So what I meant to say is, every school must utilize this day to be creative enough to bring out the best from students and the above said idea is one such.
Knowing more, it is nothing new that people in India worship teachers with lot of respect; best teachers remain in your life forever. However old you are, however successful you are but their precious advice, their teachings and their words still reverberate in your ears like they were spoken today. It is something common that most of us would have a teacher whom we consider to be a champion who helped us extract the best out of our life. One such great teacher from India is, second president of India and the Bharata Ratna Mr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
He is considered to be one of the influential scholars from India who tried to bridge eastern and western thought based on philosophical and religious thoughts. When some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, it is noted that he replied "Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if 5th September is observed as Teachers' Day." Since then September 5th, his birthday is considered to be the Teacher’s day in India. A famous saying from him goes like this "Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or self confidence." He always believed that teachers should be the best minds in the country and to be the student themselves every-time.

I believe that teachers have a great role in building the nation. Like the farmers who are the back bone of the country, teachers are the pillars of this nation. If there is any chance that the India can witness the revolutionary minds in the future it should start from the teachers. Best minds in teachers can bring the best minds out from students. Things have changed, there is a strong feeling that education system in India needs to improve and must raise the quality bar high. In the era of modernization and dynamic learning, teachers must not forget to imbibe the moral values, inspire them to dream big and bring out the best. It all happens in the early ages of a student life where a teacher can influence a student to the maximum. In a developing country like India, there exist numerous problems which can be solved by these valuable teachers by guiding their students towards the bright future.

I am of the opinion that teachers are the greatest inspiring agents around us. I am very lucky enough to have some of the wonderful teachers in my life who not only helped me in my studies but in guiding me towards the right path. Dear friends, It is the time you should not miss to remember the teachers who inspired you to do good, It is the time that you should take few minutes out of your busy life to speak with the teachers you admired and it is the time you should wish your teacher to make them feel special.  Dear all teachers, I salute you with all the respect in the world for you inspired me to do good, for you helped me to dream big, for you helped me to understand myself. Thank you for being my inspiring agents and thank you for everything that you gave me. I wish you a very happy Teacher's day.
